Sew Happy It's Your Birthday Card

Hello friends.  Thank goodness it is Friday!  This has been a lo-o-o-ong week. So long, in fact, I am just now getting time to write this blog post, though this card has been finished since last Sunday.

First - Take note of the text at the top of my blog!  Cricut is having a Memorial Day Sale - and it is a good sale!!  Also, the Cricut Totes are still on sale.  Click the link and enjoy shopping!

Now that we have completed that bit of business, I can tell you the story behind this sewing card.  My friends Regina Easter sells darling cut files, stamps, etc at her site - The Cuting Cafe.  I found this cute sewing machine card there and decided that it would be the perfect birthday card for my friend Bonnie.

Ideally, this WOULD have been the perfect birthday card for Bonnie.  Except that I did not get the card made until WEEKS after her birthday.  I considered sending it to her anyway, but decided not to.  Instead I will make improvements and shoot for next year!

This card was very fun to make.  I decided to take this as an opportunity to play with my Cricut pens.  I added not just the vine and flowers to the card, but also the writing on the dials, gadgets, and sentiment statement.  I realized that I just touched the tip of the iceberg on what I can do with the Cricut Pens.

Following this card, I ordered more Cricut pens and am very excited to use those on an upcoming project.

Thank you for stopping by for today's short blog post.  I will be back on Monday with a new Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge.

Birthday Gift Card Purse

Hello friends.  Welcome to this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 Cricut challenge post. Each week the Bitten By the Bug 2 Design Team hosts a challenge for Cricut users.  This week marvelous Marti selected the theme "birthday" for this challenge.

My most cartridge purchase was through HSN - the new Anna Griffin Gracious Giftables cartridge.  I used the cartridge last week for the graduation challenge, and I am using another giftable item this week - Anna's Coin Purse Holder.   This is such a fun cartridge.

I used three cartridges to create this card:  as mentioned above Anna's Gracious Giftables, Anna's Elegant Embellishments, and Artiste.

For the most part I made the Coin Purse Holder as it appears on the cartridge.  I did, however, make one change (admit it, you knew it was coming).  I didn't like that the card opened fully, as a regular card would, so I made two insert pieces for the edges at the fold.

Using two triangles, with rectangles welded to edges and score lines added, I created the folded inserts.  Not only do they make the coin purse look more real, they also serve the purpose of keeping the card from flopping open.

Below is a side view of the insert.

The outside of the coin purse is embellished with roses from Anna's Elegant Embellishments. I added two additional layers to the roses - a yellow center and a green leaf layer.

The happy birthday phrase was added from Close To My Heart's Artiste cartridge, matted on layered frames from Anna's Gracious Giftables cartridge.

I finished the card with gray (faux silver) closures and white ink embellishment dots.

I hope that you will join us this week at BBTB2.  Everyone needs birthday cards and this week's challenge will help you prepare for any upcoming birthdays on your calendar.  The Design Team has created a wonderful selection of projects to inspire you!!  Please do go by Bitten By the Bug 2 and check out this the team's birthday projects.

Graduate Dandelion Gift Card Set

Hello friends. Welcome to this week's Bitten by the Bug 2 Cricut challenge. My amazing Design Team sister, Laurie, is hosting this week's challenge. Laurie challenged us to create Graduation projects.  I have already had two friends with children who graduated last week - one from 4K, and our sweet DT member Michelle's son graduated from high school (congratulations Jacob).  For my project, I created a gift card or money holder (every grad's favorite gift) set.

I used four Cricut cartridges to create my card and matching envelope: Anna's Gracious Giftables, Close To My Heart Flower Market, CM Cheerful Seasons, and Cake Basics.

(Inside the card)

The basic graduation cap card and envelope were cut using Anna's Creative Giftables cartridge.  I did make additions to the basic cuts.  I added the dashed border cuts on the top of the cap using basic shapes.  I also added the yellow V trim pieces using basic shapes.  Finally, I copied and pasted to create the yellow lining piece for the card/money holder pocket.

The large dandelions were cut using Close To My Heart Flower Market.  I used the dandelion in three locations.

The flying bits of dandelion fluff were cut using CM Cheerful Seasons.
Again they were also used in three locations.

The basic Congratulations sentiment cut is from the Cake Basics cartridge.

I like the idea of the graduate moving on, sharing bits of themselves in new places and new phases of life. I tried to illustrate that with the dandelions. Hubby told me that I was reaching.  Ha.... Reaching or not, I am very happy with my gift card set.

Have you been by the Bitten By The Bug 2 blog today?  Our design team has created graduation projects for all ages of graduates.  You will find the perfect inspiration for your own graduation project.   We hope that you will join us and share your graduation project with us this week.

Happy Mother's Day Spring Wreath Card

Hello friends. Welcome to this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge.  I have been absent from blog land for over a week due to illness.  My family was sharing a serious case of gastroenteritis (the dreaded five day stomach flu). It was pretty horrific and I am so happy that we have all recovered.  Yay!

Since Sunday is Mother's Day, my sweet Design Team sister, Caroline, is hosting our BBTB2 Happy Mother's Day challenge.  While anything goes with the challenge - create a card, layout, or other project for mom - I chose to make a Mother's Day card.

I used five cartridges to make this card:  Flower Market, Artistry, Artiste, Creative Cards, and Cake Basics.

The wreath, all of the floral elements, and the banner were cut using CTMH Flower Market cartridge.  This is the first time that I used the succulents cuts and I think they are darling!

The two butterflies were cut from CTMH Artistry and CTMH Artiste.  To give you an idea of the detail the Cricut Explore can cut, these two butterflies are 1 inch tall!

The Happy Mother's Day phrase was cut using Cake Basics.

The card elements - the doily, the light pink matting, and the card shape were all cut using the Creative Cards cartridge.  The base card is 5.5 in x 4.25 in with the fold.

There are many little touches on this card.  The tiny pearls on the butterfly heads, some of the lilac centers, and edging on the banner.  Mid-sized pearls were used for center of the light pink flowers.  Assorted pink dots were sprinkled about.  Lilac petals are falling.  White ink frames the light pink matting.  And finally the pink binding ribbon was added.

I hope that you decide to join this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge. Create a new project using your Cricut and link to the original Happy Mother's Day blog post at BBTB2.

Spring Flowers Birthday Card

Hello friends. Welcome to this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge. My very sweet Design Team sister Caroline selected this week's challenge topic.  Caroline has asked us to use Cricut cut spring flowers on our projects!  What perfect timing.  My yard is currently in full bloom!

This is one of those rare times when I completed the challenge project well ahead of time.  I made this birthday card for my friend Pat.  Pat's birthday was in early March and you cannot believe how unlike me it was to have a challenge done that far ahead!

I only used one Cricut cartridge to create this tent fold birthday card - Flower Market.  All of these months later I still absolutely adore this cartri
dge.  I used the oval wreath cut and added the textured green leaves at the bottom, as well a two bundles of flowers.

The Cricut Explore not only cut the cute birthday banner, but it also wrote the sentiment for me.

With so many spring flowers in bloom the design team had not problem finding inspiration for this week's challenge.  We invite YOU to join our challenge this week also.  Nature is in bloom and so are the design team projects at Bitten by the Bug 2.  Hop on over and check out the projects, then link your new spring flower project under the Spring Flowers challenge post.

Sweet Challenge

Hello friends. Welcome to this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge.  Our sweet and so very talented Design Team sister, Valentyna, chose the theme for this challenge - SWEET.

I had these photos from last summer - Avaleigh's first trip to the ice cream parlor.  It was such a sweet moment and these photos captured some of that sweetness.  And too, there is the sweet ice cream!

I used two cartridges to create this layout - Country Life and Simply Charmed.  My page title was cut using the Country Life cartridge.  I took the existing "Cream of the Crop" title from Country Life and, using basic shapes, I built the background for the work "Ice." I accomplished this by adding small shapes together to fit behind the letters.  Once I was happy with the background for the word Ice, I welded that to the existing background.  I then cut the blue layer "Cream Crop" twice.  Using small scissors, I trimmed away a C and an E for the word ice.  I then trimmed one side of M to create the i.  That changed the title from "Cream of the Crop" to "Ice Cream of the Crop,"  more fitting for this layout.

Those adorable ice cream cones were cut using the Simply Charmed cartridge.  I know you may be shocked, but I actually did not edit the cut file at all (other than colors) prior to cutting!  I did, however, add pen highlights and glitter to the cones after assembling the pieces (see the photo above).

All in all, I think this is a very sweet layout of my favorite little girl and her ice cream.  I love the sweet snuggle photo with Avaleigh and her great-granny, my mom.

We hope that you plan to join the SWEET challenge this week at Bitten By The Bug 2.  There are so many options for things that are sweet, this challenge should be super easy.

If you have not already done so, please go by the BBTB2 blog and check out Valentyna's and all of the other design team projects.  They are sure to inspire you!

Easter Basket Tag for Jude

Hello friends.  I am back today with Jude's Easter Basket tag.  Jude's tag is very similar to Avaleigh's tag, though considerably less feminine.  Jude's tag uses three main colors - aqua, yellow, and white (Jude's name is embroidered on his bag in aqua). I used four Cricut cartridges to create Jude's tag, fewer than I used for his sister's.

The base tag was cut using Ashlyn's Alphabet, a basic three piece tag.  Like Avaleigh's tag, the flowers, greenery, and the cute little chick were cut using Flower Market.  Though of course I used fewer flowers on this tag and changed to colors of the flowers to aqua and white.  The Easter eggs were cut using the Easter Magic cartridge.  I edited the colors to make the eggs better blend with the colors of tag.  For the banner, I again used the Winter Wonderland cartridge, but I chose this great striped paper for the banner, hole support, and a touch of accent on the background.  I think the stripe looks great with all of the solids.  I used the add text feature in Design Space and the Cricut wrote the sentiment on to the banner.

The close up above shows how extra color was applied to the background layers to add more interest.  You can also see the chick, egg, and banners better.  You also can better see the ink dots I added to to various cuts.

Here is a final photo of the two Easter tags side by side.  I am really pleased with how the tags turned out. I realize as the children get older I will be making tags that are more in line with their interests.  But for this year, they are getting "pretty tags".

Thank you for stopping by for the second day of Easter Tags!
