A Lighter Shade of .... Green

Hello friends. Today I am returning from a brief blogging break; truthfully, an unplanned blogging break.  As you know from my previous blog post, Doug and I celebrated St. Valentine's Day early, disrupting my schedule enough to prevent me from finishing my Bitten By the Bug 2 project.

Last Monday I missed a second week at Bitten By the Bug 2 due to a weekend away with friends and an unexpected tummy thing.... Which lingered for several days.   I am truly hoping that I did not share my germs with friends.

My weekend away began Friday with the Scrap Art and Stamp Show in Columbia, SC.  Six of us enjoyed the Friday night Make and Take show preview.  Four of us decided to return on Saturday and do additional shopping, while the other two of us went to the sewing shop (that was a tough choice).  I especially enjoyed Paper Sweeties, Darcie's, and Heartfelt Creations.  I look forward to spending time with my new toys soon.

So now that I have caught you up, I will share the details on today's Bitten By the Bug 2 project.  My amazing sweet Design Team sister, Emily is hosting this week's challenge.  Emily asked us to think Think Green!  We were to use three shades of green on a project.  I must say, the Design Team did a fabulous job with this challenge.  I love their cards.  I took a different route, however.

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, so that mean Marti Gras is Tuesday. The first year that we were married, Doug and I lived just outside of New Orleans.  For this young newly wed from Michigan it seemed like a different culture - and in someways it was!  But it was fun and educational.  I learned to enjoy Marti Gras as something other than Fat Tuesday and a pancake supper.  So for my Think Green BBTB2 project, I made a Marti Gras mask, incorporating the greens, gold, and purple of Mardi Gras.

I found the basic mask with the scroll work (in black) on the Over The Hill cartridge.  I changed the colors to green and purple.  I then used the fabulous feathers from Creative Memories' Divine Wedding cartridge, cut in shades of green, and the gold.  I added the gold diamond to the mask, and the leaf flourish cuts on the upper corners, as well as the ribbons and wand. I used iridescent sequins to embellish the mask.  I also misted the mask to mold it into the curved shape.

If you have not already d one so, please do go by the Bitten By the Bug 2 blog and view my Design Sisters' fabulous projects.  They rocked the green. I could actually give them shout outs by name right here as their projects are that cute.  But I will just encourage you to go look for yourself.

I would like to share one more quick thing with you - the absolutely darling Close To My Heart Stamp of the Month, Easter Bunny.

This stamp set is only available until midnight Tuesday.   You can purchase this stamp set, Easter Bunny, at my on-line CTMH store for $17.95, or with a $50 order you can add it to your cart during checkout for $5.00.  Do not delay.  This stamp set is darling.  Shop HERE.

If you have made it this far, you deserve an award.  Clearly I cannot take a week off again soon as I am far to chatty upon my return! Thank you for dropping by and I hope you have a fabulous week.

Brunch and a Break from Life

Hello friends.  I do not have a Bitten By the Bug 2 post to share with you today, just a little life story.  As most of you know, we are the full time care providers for my mother, who has Alzheimer's.  My mother's memory fades more and more each week, and sometimes that can be a challenge.
This last week we had two particularly difficult days. I am not sure what causes the bad days, if indeed there is a cause.  I just know that some days mom is less cooperative, more stubborn, and/or less aware of reality, all of which create a perfect storm of difficulty.

After the two difficult days, I decided that Doug and I needed a day away, without my mom, and without the constant awareness of where she is and what she is doing.   We decided to have an early, private, Valentine's date

Our oldest son and his precious wife came over to "Granny sit" for us on Sunday.  Doug and I went to the historic Willcox Inn and enjoyed their fabulous Sunday Brunch.  I had to laugh because I was completely finished with my food before I remembered to take a photo of my plate.  I had Eggs Benedict with shared side dishes of hash potatoes and bacon.  Doug had the Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Waffles, with Almonds, Mascarpone, Bananas, and syrup, with our shared side dishes.  I had the (spicy) Blood Marys and Doug had the Wheat Stout.

The piano player was live in the lobby.  We dinned on an antique backgammon game table sitting in comfy high backed chairs.  And we relaxed.  And talked.  And breathed.  It was an ideal getaway.

My empty plate, ha.  Followed by an action shot of Doug finishing his brunch.

We ran into two dear friends at the Willcox, as well as a group of like minded people with whom to discuss politics.  And we just enjoyed our time alone. It was a perfect adult way to destress.

The other stress reliever in our lives, our grandchildren, continue to delight us.  Avaleigh had her first Daddy-Daughter dance last week.  He father's school had a Daddy-Daughter dance, and Avaleigh went with John.  She was so cute, and so excited.  She had no idea what to expect, but that did not stop her from excitedly talking about it on Friday before the dance!!

My sweet little grandson, Jude, is growing and learning so much.  He is now six months old.  Jude is very affectionate and has the most charming smile. He is trying to crawl, but is currently on scooting around.  In this photo he is wearing his, "Heyyy me*" shirt.  Down below it says *Jude.  Yes, a Beatles reference.

Even though I took a day off and did not join the weekly Bitten By the Bug 2 Cricut challenge, I hope that you will go by the BBTB2 blog and view the design team's projects.  I know they would love to have you join in this week's Red and White challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Second Grade Valentine Treats

Hello friends, welcome to my second St. Valentine project of the year.  My super sweet Design Team sister, Kelly, is back from her leave of absence at Bitten By the Bug 2 (yay! We missed her so much) and is hosting our weekly Cricut challenge.  Kelly has asked us to make a Valentine project - whether it be a card, a tag, a layout, or a 3D project.  I chose these decorated St. Valentine tubes, which will be filled with Valentine colored M&Ms, a project I am making for my daughter's second grade students.

I used three Cricut cartridges on this project: Mickey and Friends Love at First Sight (I do love these characters), Doodlecharms, and Ribbons and Rosettes.  I chose the individual Mickey and Minnie holding hearts as my main characters.  Using the add text feature, I added the "I❤U" sentiment into their Valentine hearts.  I also cut tiny red hearts to cover the drawn heart.

I found the double layer heart charm on the Doodlecharms cartridge.  I separated the layers and added a drawn heart to the top layer heart.  After affixing Mickey and Minnie to the heart charms, I added the backwards C and hand drew the ink lines.

The band at the bottom of the tube was cut using a single layer heart border from the Ribbons & Rosettes cartridge.  I sized the border to wrap around the tube.

I ordered the tubes from one of my favorite on-line stores, A Cherry on Top. I actually ordered some round tubes also, but I could not find them today. As many of you know, my mother - who has advanced Alzheimer's disease - lives with us.  One of her favorite things to do lately is pick up things that do not belong to her and move them to her room.  She is especially fascinated with my scrapping supplies.  I suspect my round tubes are in her bedroom someplace.  They will turn up eventually - last week I ran across the large bottle of red Stickles on a shelf in her room.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.  If you have not already done so, please go by Bitten by the Bug 2 and check out the Valentine eye candy the Design Team has created.  And please do consider joining us in our weekly challenge.
