A Case of the Vapors?

Hello friends!  Welcome to the weekly Bitten by the Bug 2 Cricut Challenge!  This week my dear design team member, Emily, the owner of Mollie's Motif Blog, selected our challenge theme.  Emily challenged the DT to create Get Well cards!  I came out of wedding land long enough to design and assemble this fun Hello Kitty get well card!

Anyone who knows me, know that I do indeed love Hello Kitty.  Look at her tucked into her bed in her PJs and night cap.  Poor Kitty is feeling a bit under the weather!   I used three Cricut cartridges to create my HK card:  Hello Kitty Greetings, Artiste, and Billionaire.  I used a new line of Close To My Heart card stock - it officially comes out on February first - to create the cuts for the card.  I will be telling you more about the new products in the coming weeks!

I decided that Hello Kitty, being the southern belle kitty that she is, would not admit to really being ill; she claims to have A Case of the Vapors!  Poor Kitty.  I cut the "case of the vapors" phrase with the Billionaire cartridge, and I cut the banner with Artiste.

Like most of our weekly challenges, the Bitten by the Bug 2 Design Team and I invite you to join us in this week's challenge.  Create your own Cricut cut Get Well card and share it with us at the Bitten by the Bug 2 blog!

Things in wedding land - where my head is most of the time these days, is progressing nicely.  We purchased Bethany's bridal gown last week!  She looked so beautiful and so happy!  She also selected her bridesmaids dresses and the maids have begun purchasing.  And on top of that, I lucked upon a dress that I love!  So, our dresses are all taken care of!

I have been working on designing invitations... I think we are on design number 6 now!  I finally have an invitation that I truly love and I cannot wait to share it with Bethany.

I will try to keep you posted on the wedding progress, but of course I cannot show you any of the crafted items until this summer!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Do take time to go by BBTB2 and check out the great Get Well cards that the design team created!

Beautiful Bows with Bow-It-All

Hello everyone!  I have been meaning to share this post with you for the last two weeks so I think it is finally time to share my latest tool with you.  My friend Kathy found a wonderful pre-Christmas deal on Zutter's Bow-It-All and shared it with our scrapping girl friends.  Being me, I trusted Kathy and Suzanne that this was something I needed and I did not spend a great deal of time researching the tool.  Well, yes, indeed they were right!  I love the Bow-It-All!

The Bow-It-All is so easy to use (with a bit of reading the instructions or watching YouTube videos to get you started) and I am discovering so many uses for the bows.  I am not saying that you are going to see a bow on everything I make from now on, but I will say that when I do it add a bow, it will be a perfect bow!!

The really neat thing about the BIA is that it makes bows of all sizes and with varying number of loops.  You can make a simple two loop bow, or a fabulous, large bow.  If we need any bows for the up-coming wedding, they will be super easy to make with the Bow-It-All.

The deal Kathy found was at Scrapbook.com and the Bow-It-All was half the price that it is listed elsewhere.  The bow pictured in the top and bottom photos of this post was only the second bow I had made with the Bow-It-All.  My last few Christmas packages had WONDERFUL bows.

Happy 23!

Hello friends!  I cannot believe that it has been an whole week since I shared a new project with you.  All I can say is the winter tummy virus is no fun, and wedding planning is a lot of fun!  Bethany, Duncan the wonder dog, and I have all had the tummy thing, but the down time afforded us lots of planning time.

But now it is time for a new project and for the weekly Bitten by the Bug 2 challenge.  My sweet design team sister, Caroline, selected this week's challenge - a birthday card that includes a number.  My card is not hugely festive and birthday looking, but it suits the character of the recipient.  She likes denim, flowers, and a touch of vintage!  Instead of balloons and party hats, I thought she would like flowers and blue prints far better.

I made my flowers using the Art Philosophy cartridge and textured card stock.  After rolling and gluing my my flowers together, I added Stickles to the "petals."  I added a paper flower to the center of the purchased denim flower.

I finished the card with the stamped "Happy 23" rectangle and added the rectangle to the corner of the center card panel.

If you have not already done so, please head over to the Bitten By the Bug 2 blog and check out the far better numbered birthday cards created by my design team sisters.  They put so much work into their cards and it truly shows.  Also remember, we so enjoy it when you join us in the weekly challenges!

Just Pedaling Along

Hello friends!  It's the first Bitten by the Bug 2 challenge of year and I am ready to play!  My darling Design Team sister, Brenda, selected this week's challenge.  I knew that January is National Papercrafting month, but it seems it is also National Hobby month!  Well being the brilliant woman that she is, Brenda combined the papercrafting and hobbies and challenged the Design Team to scrap their hobbies.

When looking at my hobbies, of course papercrafting was my first and foremost hobby, but someone doing a layout about papercrafting was unappealing.  I have other hobbies:  reading, cooking, historical research, and theme parties... And bicycling.    I do not bicycle as much as I used to, which is good and bad.

Ten to eleven years ago I was very serious about cycling.  I was pedaling about 150 miles per week.  I was also MUCH healthier and MUCH thinner.  After a cycling related injury and some lower back pain, I cut back a lot.  I still LOVE my bicycle.  I love the freedom I feel with the wind in my face and the self-challenge of going faster and further.

I used only one Cricut cartridge on this layout - Bicycling.  I used the Bicycling cartridge to cut the multi-layered bike in the lower left of the layout, the large background wheel, the bike helment (always wear a helmet - your brain is precious), and the "Ride Like The Wind" layered title.

I placed the cuts and two photos from a 350 mile charity ride in which I participated in 2003 onto an 11 x 11 inch piece of cork paper.  I applied a yellow 11.5 x 11.5 inch matting and a 12 x 12 inch black background sheet.  I added some chevron photo mats and stripes, as well as a few colored brads.

The charity ride was a four day, 350 mile ride from Raleigh, NC to Washington, D.C.  It was a really tough ride and though I was happy to have participated, this ride was exhausting.  In the photos on the layout you can find me in the back row, third from the left on the full team photo, and on the far right holding up my bike and wearing a yellow boa in the candid photo.

I hope that all of you take some time this week and think about your hobbies.  Hobbies are something that should make you happy, reduce your stress levels, and help you find peace and joy!  I hope you decided to join our first Bitten By The Bug 2 challenge of 2014.  Please be sure to check the sidebar rules at the BBTB2 blog before you link in your Cricut project.

Since I mentioned National Papercrafting month above, I am going to tell you about a Close To My Heart January special exclusively for National Papercrafting month.  This month only when you place a qualifying order ($35.00) you can add our Cloud Nine cardmaking kit to your order for only $15.00!!

If you sign up as a new Consultant in January, you will get this card set as a  FREE bonus!
