Anniversary Weekend Getaway

Hello friends.  Doug and I are away this weekend celebrating our thirty-third wedding anniversary.  We are visiting the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.  We have been to Biltmore twice previously with our family, but this is our first solo trip and our first trip during the Christmas Season.

I ordered tickets to the Candlelight Christmas Evenings at Biltmore Estate late last summer.  The Estate can be visited during the day throughout the Christmas season, or for a special treat, you may purchase Candlelight Evening tickets.

I am looking forward to seeing all of the rooms decorated for the Christmas.  I confess that I am itching to decorate my own home, though somewhat LESS dramatically than the Biltmore decorators!  I have been receiving daily updates on decorating and seasonal events at the Estate... building the anticipation.

Did I mention that prior to our eight o'clock evening tour time we have dinner reservations on the estate?  I will have to keep you posted on what all of the details.

The Candlelight Evenings are supposed to include seasonal entertainment throughout the house:  dancers, choirs, and musicians, all to the glow of candlelight.

Did I mention that you can also take sleigh and carriage rides?  You can participate in many outdoor activities during the daytime hours.  Biking, hiking, and horseback riding to name a few.

 Info about Candlelight Christmas Evenings:

November 7, 2014–January 3, 2015

Explore Biltmore House during holiday evenings when candles and fireplaces fill the grand home with a warm glow, accenting delicate ornaments and priceless treasures with metallic shine and sparkle, and music warms the heart. This year, book a Candlelight Christmas Evening at Biltmore to make holiday memories with your family that will last a lifetime.
Your evening admission includes:
  • Reserved evening visit to Biltmore House
  • Daytime access to Biltmore Gardens and Antler Hill Village & Winery on the same day as your evening visit or the next day
  • Free parking

Thanksgiving Thank You Box Card

Hello everyone!  It is Monday and time for the weekly Bitten By The Bug 2 challenge.  This week's Cricut Challenge was selected by our Design Team sister, the talented Diana of D.L. Art.  Diana's theme for the week is Anything Goes (yes, I do think of the musical number every time I type that)!  That means as long as you use your Cricut to cut at least one element, you can make whatever you want this week!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner I decided to accomplish two birds with one stone on my BBTB2 project:  I made my first ever box card AND I made a Thank You card for the sweet family that is hosting us for Thanksgiving dinner!!

I used my Cricut Explore and a file from the SVG.com store, Autumn Box Cards - Thanksgiving Box Card.  There were a lot of cut pieces, but with the pdf instructions included with the cut file, I had no problem assembling my Thanksgiving Box.  In fact, it was so fun that I cannot wait to make another box card (#lovingboxcards)!

For the most part I used card stock scraps to create the card.  I did use one full sheet of brown textured card stock for the basic box pieces.  But otherwise, I pulled scraps from my stash!  I love projects that allow me to use previously cut card stock and use up some of my scraps.

I added ink to the edges of the white elements and pumpkin cuts.  I also added bright glitter to the turkey to dress him up a bit!

I used a Close To My Heart stamp, Just To Say.... from the Artfully Sent collection.  I love this sheet of sentiment only stamps!

Being me, I have flattened my card several times already, just to prove to myself that the card will indeed fit into the envelop!  It does!

I hope that you find some time this week to play with your Cricut cutting machine.  Please share your project with us at BBTB2 - we love it when you play along and share your project ideas!

Thanks for stopping by today. Please do take a few minutes and go by Bitten By The Bug 2 and check out the great projects the Design Team made this week!   I will be back later in the week with other new projects!

Baby Bear Squares Flip Cards

Hello friends.  I am back today to share two of the cards I worked on last weekend, Baby Bear Squares Flip Cards.  I made two of the cards, one for a girl and one for a boy.

I used the sizzix card die set pictured above, Sizzix Square Flip its Card Triple Framelits Dies, which can be purchased for $17.81 at Amazon by clicking on the name of the die set.  I love the versatility of this die set and I find that I am often on the lookout for 1 - 1.25 inch square stamps to use with the dies.  I picked up this set of baby bear image stamps late in the summer after I found out that we were expecting our Granddaughter.  I also found some tiny thank you stamps to use with this die set.

I used another set of sizzix dies to cut the little flowers.  I have two flower set tiny dies that make great embellishments.  I thought the little flowers went well with the baby girl card.

My baby boy card is not finished yet.  I am awaiting the naming of my friend's future grandson so that I can add his name vertically down the left side of the card front.  Right now we just call him New Baby.  That is probably NOT the best long term name choice!

As you can see, I used the same papers, only the blue version, and the same stamps, only colored with blue markers.  I really like both versions of this card.  But when you start with a great die and stamp set, is it easy to create nice cards.

Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my Baby Bear Squares Flip Cards.  I still have several layouts to share with you from my weekend away!!  So be sure to check back soon.

Fall Baby Shower for Baby Avaleigh

Hello friends. Today I am going to share with you some of the details from the baby shower my mom and I hosted for Bethany, John, and baby Avaleigh!  The baby is due in mid-January so we decided to host a baby shower before everyone becomes entangled in their holiday madness.  With that in mind, and the advent of beautiful warm, clear fall weather, we decided on a fall themed outdoor baby shower!

As much as I hoped to by-pass the craziness of everyone's Thanksgiving till New Year's schedules, I still selected a bad weekend for the baby shower.  So many people were out of town for one reason or another.  But our friends being the AMAZING women that they are, they dropped off or mailed gifts to arrive for the shower!  How wonderful is that?

We decorated with fall colors and served a variety of fall themed foods.  In addition to ham salad and egg salad finger sandwiches, we also had corn casserole muffins, a savory pumpkin shaped cheese ball with crackers, a sweet pumpkin cheese ball (which tasted like pumpkin cheesecake) severed with gingersnaps and graham crackers, a veggie tray and dip, chips and dip, and a create our own caramel apple station.  I put put honeycrisp apple wedges on skewers and had a small pot of war caramel with several toppings in which the caramel apple wedges could be dipped.

For beverages we severed an apple cider sangria as well as sodas and assorted bottled waters.

I must tell you, baby Avaleigh is going to be one well dressed baby when she arrives. Bethany and John received so many adorable outfits, baby gadgets, tools, diapers, and nursery decor, they were thrilled and overwhelmed!

John stayed for the entire shower, assisting as needed and opening several of the gifts.  He is so looking forward to their baby girl!

We passed around most of the gifts so that everyone could get an up-close look at all of of the darling baby girl clothes and gear. and oooh & ahhhh appropriately! Below MFK, my friend Kathy, admires one of the sweet outfits Avaleigh received.

After the shower we took a few minutes to snap a few family photos. Below are Bethany and I.

Avaleigh should be feeling the love in the photo below.

And of course, John and Bethany are thrilled about becoming parents!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I still have projects to share with you this week, so check back soon!

Blessed Beyond Measure Pumpkin Card

Hello everyone!  Welcomed to this week's Bitten By The Bug 2 challenge.  Our sweet Design Team sister, Caroline, has challenged the DT to create pumpkin projects in her Fall Pumpkin Challenge! Even though I was away this last weekend, Friday - Sunday, I accepted Caroline's challenge.  Of course it was easy to accept in that I was on a three day scrapbook weekend with girlfriends!

Myself and six of MFSG (My Friends [the] Scrappy Girls) were in Spartanburg, SC at Scrapbook Creations for a wonderful weekend of girl time, creativity, classes, and fun.  There were representatives in from Bo Bunny (in Utah) to teach two OUTSTANDING classes, in addition to all of the normal wonderment of Scrapbook Creations.  Peggy, Bonnie, and I took the Bo Bunny Thankful 6 x 8.5 inch album class, and Bonnie and Peggy went on to take the layouts class.  I confess to regretting missing the layout class.  The teachers were outstanding in that they taught the class projects and techniques with knowledge, patience, and humor while creating a fun and creative class environment.  I have taken A LOT of scrapbook classes through the years and I can confidently say that this was one of the best classes I have even taken!

Knowing that I ALWAYS come home from Scrapbook Creations exhausted (due to lack of sleep!), I created my Bitten By The Bug 2 project after my Bo Bunny Thanksgiving album class.  My timing was outstanding because I had plenty of leftover Bo Bunny Autumn papers to use on my card.

I used my Cricut Explore and Cricut Design Space to design and cut my card elements.  I began with two pumpkin cuts selected from two different cartridges, Art Philosophy and Autumn Celebrations.  I cut the two pumpkins twice each in different sizes using fun fall print card stock.

I assembled the pumpkins and made several edits to their appearances.  I removed some of the vine from the stems of two pumpkins and I removed the top layer from the pumpkin in the forefront of the card.   I used Close To My Heart's BEYOND MEASURE pumpkin stamp on the front pumpkin.  While the pumpkin cut did not fit the stamp exactly, I do like the effect.

I assembled the card with two matting layers of card stock topped with the four pumpkins.  I used layers of thin foam squares and thick foam dots to build up the pumpkin dimensions. The highest pumpkin has double layer foam dots supporting the bottom section off of the card background.

I finished the card with white doodles and dashes, as well as a touch of ribbon.  I used a micro tipped brown marker to trace around the words on the stamped pumpkin.

As I said above, Scrapbook Creations was a lot of fun and I actually have a few projects to share with you, as well as a few photos from Bethany's fall themed baby shower.  Hopefully I will have a full week of blogging!

Remember that the Bitten By The Bug 2 Design Team so enjoys it when YOU join our weekly challenges.  Please take some time this week to create a Cricut cut FALL PUMPKIN project and share it with us at BBTB2.  The challenge rules are posted on the sidebar at the Bitten by the Bug 2 blog!

Thanks for stopping by today!
