Ritz Camera - 20% all Scrapbooking Including Spellbinders Wizard!!

Ritz Camera is not a retailer I would normally think of as a scrapbook supplier, but lately they have been great. Dh (I mean Santa) purchased my Making Memories Embellishment Center from Ritz back at Christmas, due to the lowest price + free shipping.

Right now they are having a 20% off all scrapbooking products and this includes the Spellbinders Wizard, all NESTABILITIES, shapebilities, etc. If you are a nestabilities user, it will be worth your time to look at Ritz Camera... And did I mention the free shipping???

A Rose by any Other Name Would Smell as Sweet

The challenge for the week over at the Bitten by the Bug blog is to use the ROSE from Indie Art in a design of our choosing. Being me, I went with yet another Valentine's card.

This card was cut with a modified version of Jen's doily edge cricut cut file (I made adjustments and turned her edge work into a card), pretty pink papers, pink ribbons and rick-rack, and of course a tag from the Cutting Cafe's printable stamps (have you checked out the cutting cafe yet? Click the link in the name and go see for yourself how wonderful printed stamps can be.... GO!).

I topped off the design with a BasicGray valentine rub-on. I love the long narrow shape of this card, and I hope my mom will too. Shhhh! Don't tell her.

And finally a note to William - thank you for providing me a title for this week's project. Your body of work could provide me with a life time of titles. Go Shakespeare!!!

Old School Romance

This afternoon I found time to play with another image from Clearly Vintage . This was originally an advertisement. I cut my base card on the cricut E, trimmed the edges of my vintage ad, and thought about romance. This couple looks like they are attending a 1940's summer party on Long Island - which gave me the title, Old School Romance. I also used one of the adorable printable stamps from The Cutting Cafe, "Dear Sweetheart". The card was topped with rub-ons from BasicGrey (For Toby)!

Valentine Heart Box - all George

I really like the Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More cartridge; there are some really cute boxes which can be cut and embellished numerous ways. I wanted to make a Valentine box for a special friend. I looked at the boxes and chose a basic bag/box, then rebuilt the it using George. I need to make edits to the entire top of the box, hence the George rebuild. I wanted the have a flip over lace edging. I know others on the cricut MB have created their own versions of this little valentine box, but I stubbornly wanted to do it on my own. My box still needs some bugs worked out on lace placement, but overall I am happy. These are photos of the trial cut.

New Obama Logo Cut File

Buffy on the cricut message board was looking for an Obama logo cut file. I created the circle logo. The red pieces require a bit of hand trimming, but otherwise this should work. The file has been posted on the cut file list below.

President and Mrs. Obama

Back during the Paper Doll Dress Up character file swap I created a Barack and Michelle Obama cut file. In honor of our new President and First Lady, I have posted Barack and Michelle to my cut file directory.

Sympathy Card

This week's challenge at Bitten by the Bug was to use the Heart cut from the Wedding Solutions cartridge. With Valentine's Day just a few weeks away, there was a lot of love in the air (or on the Internet) at BBTB. I decided to take a different approach. A few weeks ago I made my first sympathy card. It ended up being a case of "it's the thought that counts" because it truly was not my best card. The more I looked at the Wedding Solutions Heart, the more I thought of using it for something other than romance. So I did the heart in black and white, matted on white vellum, and attached to a black card with a white lace edge. I embellished with black, white, and gray ribbon, white flowers, and a little bird rub-on. Inside I inserted a white square for the stamped sympathy message and personal note. It may seem a bit morbid, but I like my love filled sympathy card!

Still Busy with the Cricky

After completing a project for BBTB, I moved on to the practical and the inspiring. First I saw on the cricut message board that Jody P had created upside down stickles holders. So I thought to myself, I can do that! I have several sheet of acetate that one of the guys at work salvaged for me when it was about to be thrown out (Thank you Charles!), so I decided to use that for my stickles holders. I purchased four 5 x 6 inch containers for $2.00 at Hobby Lobby (I TRIED to be good while I was there). I cut 12 holes in two half sheets of acetate. I trimmed the edges and used my glue max gun to adhere the acetate to the plastic container. It is perfect. I have space for 24 colors of stickles, not that I own that many. Thanks for the idea Jody.

Then I moved on to vinyl. I have been wanting to play with my new Home Accents cartridge, so I dug through my little pile of vinyl and found a 24 inch piece which I placed on the 12 x 24 mat. I used all HA on this design. I had a bit of vinyl slippage on the cutting mat, I think maybe because the mat was SO BIG. I also realized that I have two bubbles in my cut vinyl (I'll have to climb up and do some additional smoothing). I put this over my computer/cricut desk in my scrap room (above my new Making Memories Large Embellishment Center). I know this looks small in the photo, but it is 23 inches x 5.5 inches.

Preparing for the Annual Trip to Camp Crop A Lot

Each year I make a pilgrimage to Temple, GA with 15 other women to a place called Camp Crop A Lot. Now, before you gag on the name, or worse yet, get a mental picture of cabins and campfires, let me assure you that camp crop a lot is not really a camp! The woman who owns the house (Yes, I said HOUSE) is named Camp. Camp crop a lot is a residential home converted to be a weekend crop retreat center. This will be our third year at CCAL.... Which means it was almost exactly two years ago that I met and fell in love with Cricut!!! I had my first cricut experience at CCAL. I had just purchased an electronic cutting system by a different company, came home and sold it to dh's admin assistant, and ran out and purchased my first cricut!!!

Each year a different friend is in charge making the arrangement and communicating with everyone. This year that blessed woman is my friend Kathy. Kathy got this hot idea after attending a recipe swap class that we should each bring 6 x 6 pages to share. But not recipes... ON NO! She made us do that one thing that no true scrapper likes.... Scrap pages featuring ourselves! That's right, I had to make 16 - 6 x 6 pages of me. Yikes.

I decided to use my cricut to ease my pain. I cut 6 x 6 squares, then 5.25 x 5.25 squares, 4" -ish circles, flowers, swirls, etc..... all using my cricut. I printed my information on the card stock, using text boxes. And then I assembled and blinged my pages. Not too bad for one evening's work.

Cupid Cut File

Jan Holmes of the Cricut Message Board was looking for a cupid cut file. I decided to have a go at him. My cupid is all George and Paper Dolls. I really think the wing on Indie Art is better, but Jan did not have that cartridge. I would suggest removing the wing and replacing it with IA if you have the cartridge. Also - I would suggest doing the base cut three times: 1. in the skin color you want, 2. in the top color you want, 3. in the pants color you want. Cut off the excess and layer the pieces. Page two of the file has the hair, wings, and bow & arrow. I will cut this later, but wanted to go ahead and post the file.

Enjoy.

Sally the Snail Gift Card Holder for Valentine's Day

Have you been by Bitten by the Bug today? This week Regina challenged us to use the SNAIL from the Walk In My Garden cartridge. I created Sally the snail - a gift card holder. Sally is sporting loads of bling, as well as a center shell heart that was cut from Storybook. In all Sally was created using WIMG, SB, PDDU, & G. I think she is a cutie.

One More Cut File - Be My Valentine Page Title

So... I was thinking... I actually do that sometimes... and I realized that a really cute Valentine page title should have heart cuts in the letters! The challenge was to find romantic looking letter that were wide enough to insert hearts... Then I remembered: Storybook! So I used Storybook and George to create my Valentine title - though the extra hearts as embellies almost make it mesh-like!

New Cricut Bug Head

After several requests on the Cricut MB for a Bug Head Logo cut file (and senseless drama) I decided to recreate a bug logo cut file. My new design will work with both the baby bug and the expression machines, yet still cut a large cricut head. I just love this little guy; he looks so adorable on the back of my van (which several of my friends have now renamed "The Cricutmobile"). The file has been added to the free downloadable cut file list below. Enjoy!

Victorian Bookmarker

You know how I normally LOVE Saturdays? Pajamas as long as I want, late breakfast, movies with dh??? Well today is not the Saturday I had planned. I am supposed to be at Lake Murray with Beth, Sally, Kathy, Pat, & Suzanne. But instead I am at home nursing my throat & chest, crud & cough. I was looking forward to time spent with these women - they are simply amazing. The only three upsides to missing the weekend away (since I am still coughing!), is that I did finish my BBTB weekly challenge, I made a Victorian bookmark, and I scrapped the photos from our New Year's Eve dinner out.

I think the Victorian bookmark is lovely - just a bit big. Good thing I am reading a large hard cover book at the moment (The Camel Club by David Baldacci).

It's Monday and That Means BBTB Time!!

It's Monday and that means that Regina has posted the designs from the latest Bitten By the Bug challenge. This week Regina challenged the designers to use the Pencil from the My Community cartridge. As usual the designs are as varied as the designers themselves. I must tell you that this group of women CONSTANTLY amaze & inspire me!

I made a Happy New Year card, titled "Resolutions". My resolutions are all aimed at personal inner growth. Let's hope I succeed!

Happy New Year!

Roses are Red.... And so are some Valentine Cards!

I so enjoyed the Valentine centerpiece that I decided to make a few Valentine Cards! I went back to Cora's Clearly Vintage Blog and selected more vintage photos (see the link in the previous blog entry). I LOVE this couple.... They are so nerdy! What does that say about me that I think nerdy is adorable??? I also used some of Regina's valentine printable stamps from The Cuting Cafe (see the link at the lower left of my blog). Regina has such fun printable stamps - I know these are only my FIRST valentine cards, not nearly all of them!!!

Jumping the Gun... St. Valentine's Day Sneak-Peak

I finally took down all of the Christmas decorations (except for the 6 red ornaments sitting in a tray on my coffee table - I cannot find where I hid their box from myself!). I always feel like we have lost all color when everything gets put away. So today, between other projects, I made a St. Valentine, Be Mine 3D centerpiece for my entry way table.

I used Doodlecharms for the assorted heart pieces, Celebration for the cupcakes, George for the circle cuts on the edges of the hearts, and Storybook for the words. I also used Tami's (Sunnieday) new year's gift to the cricut mb as embellishments. For some reason Valentine's always makes me think of cupcakes. Odd, I know.

The vintage photo came from Clearly Vintage (http://clearlyvintage.blogspot.com/), where there are many amazing images. I liked this cute little female Cupid (women's rights, and such).

Well, I may have jumped the gun, but the retailer all beat me to the punch!!!

Two days of Cricutting and a trip to Hobby Lobby

I have enjoyed the last two days SO MUCH!!! Not only did I finish the BBTB challenge early, I made two gift card holders (see the photos of the Teapot) for a swap, and I cut titles and embellishments to take to a crop at the lake next weekend. One of my friends (well two friends really) and her mom host several of us at their lake house for a non-stop crop every few months. It is so wonderful! Anyway, I spent some time organizing my photos and I cut some page titles, etc. to go with some of the photos.

This evening I went to Hobby Lobby seeking markers. I really wanted Copic markers, but I just could not justify the $5.00 per maker price! So I looked around and found that all maker sets were on sale. I ended up with a really nice set of Faber-Castell (24 set) markers. Again, I was happy with the sale as even my second choice markers were normally priced at $60.00. The thing is, with Hobby Lobby there is NO REASON to ever pay full price. Everything goes on sale regularly. Anyway, now that I have exposed my cheap side (!!) I will move on.

I had one last Christmas gift arrive today. Dh gave me the Making Memories Large Embellishment center. I am very pleased with it as my main desk (and hutches) were over flowing. So a lot of the flower, the stickles, and the cirlce punches now have a new home (along with Michelle and Barack - just for Jen to enjoy).

While I was rearranging things in scrap-land, I also put away (sorted by color) the 100 sheets of assorted bazzil card stock that ds gave me for Christmas.

I hate that my break will end on Monday..... I love having this much time to spend with my toys!!

Fender-like Guitar Gift Card Holder

I have joined a file swap on the cricut mb. The guidelines include using one cartridge of your choice, along with George or Plantin, and creating a gift card holder. I chose Indie Art's Fender-like guitar. I made two sets of cut files, one with George as the card base and one with Plantin as the card base. Overall I was fairly pleased with the card. I think it will be great for some of ds's friend's birthdays.

Happy New Year.... Relax and Play

Happy New Year!!!!

Dh and I bid 2008 adieu in the company of our friends Bill & Ruth. The four of us dined at Casa Bella last night (I had the lobster) while we amused B & R with stories of our children's fascination with the country store near my mom's house. The restaurant was decorated with streamers and confetti, and was quite adorable. The women were provided with New Year's hats and there were horns on the table. As we left Ruth (a non scrapper) gave me her hat and Casa Bella's business card to use as memorabilia. Ruth has the making of a good future scrapper!!!!

I hope your day was as pleasant and relaxing as mine. First, I must share. My friend and neighbor, Andrea, called to say that she received a late Christmas present yesterday from her dh. Can you guess? She got a Cricut Expression!!! She was playing and cutting and called to ask me questions. I must admit I was not a lot of help. Most of my answers consisted of, "oh yeah. I do that with design studio." I realized that I would have to learn to use my expression again if my laptop should crash (nice laptop, good laptop.... insert petting of the machine).

This afternoon and evening I spent working on my weekly challenge for BBTB. I missed the last two (!!! HORRORS!!!) due to life, lack of cartridge, illness, and travel. I did not want to miss again. And this evening I played with a SU stamp set I purchased last November, and had yet to test drive. I made a couple of birthday cards.

I did decide that I need some better markers. I use colored pencil a lot, because my markers are horrid. My sister-in-law gave us a gift card from Hobby Lobby for Christmas (yes, I assumed it was really for ME!!), so I think I will apply it to a set of Copic markers.

Tomorrow is shaping up to be busy. Dd is still home from college and dh thinks we should take her to Columbia shopping for clothes. Does this sound fun? Ummmm..... Can I plead the fifth??? There WILL be Michael's and A.C. Moore!!!!

Happy New Year!!!
