Happy Easter Banner Card

Hello friends. Today I am posting my first Easter Card of 2017 which is my Bitten By the Bug 2 project for this week.  My sweet and amazing Design Team sister, Michelle, selected this week's Cricut Challenge.  Michelle asked us to use a Cricut cut Banner or Sign on our project.

I was browsing the "make it now" Easter projects in Cricut Design Space and found a simplified version of this card. I thought it was darling. And since it has a banner included, I thought this card would work for this week's challenge.

In Design Space the card is cut in one color, one single piece which is scored in the middle to fold.  I liked the card, but thought if I "tweaked" the design it might be more mine.

The first thing I did was remove the score line in DS.  I then sized a square to fit over the bottom section of the card.  I highlighted the card and the square at the same time and used the "Slice" tool to cut off the bottom section of the card.  I was left with the framed front of the card only.

I made three additional copies of the frame and changed the colors to pink, light blue, yellow, and light teal.  After cutting the four frames, I used scissors to cut apart the elements on the pink, yellow, and teal copies.  I used the blue layer as bottom piece.  I then layered and glued the pieces together.

After the card front dried, I attached a pink print background behind the chicks and banner, then attached the entire front to a white card.  I finished the card with gold marker beaks and white pen doodles.

If you have not already done so, please do go by the Bitten By the Bug 2 blog.  The design team had created awesome banner and sign projects. You will love them.  They just might inspire you to join our challenge this week!

Jude's First Christmas

Hello friends.  After sharing Avaleigh's Christmas photo layout on Wednesday, I thought you might like to see Jude's Christmas layout today. First, Jude is a really sweet baby. He is also a really handsome baby. His eyes have turned brown, like his father's, and he also has John's dimples. Jude laughs easily and when he smiles, he smiles with his entire face.  He is currently beginning to crawl and he is learning to play independently.  He is, in short, a joy.

I used two Cricut cartridges to complete these two pages, Close To My Heart Flower Market (Big surprise that, I love this cartridge!), and Ribbons and Rosettes.  I also used a font from my computer to cut the date.

All of the greenery, flowers, wreath, the banner, and the Merry Christmas sentiment were cut using Flower Market.  The cute twirly trim I used across the middle of each page was cut using Ribbons and Rosettes.  Avaleigh's pages had a lace border, but I did not want to use lace on Jude's pages. Then I remembered the twirly trim on the sleeves and collar of my sons' Christening gown.  This cut from Ribbons and Rosettes looks very similar to that trim.

I think the photographer did a wonderful job on these photos.  There were many more photos in the set, but I chose my favorites to use on the four pages.

I hope that you enjoyed the children's Christmas Layouts.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Christmas Layout

Hello friends.  I am back to share Avaleigh's Christmas layout.  These photos were taken at a Christmas Tree Farm, by a professional photographer.  I just love them.  I had so many photos from which to choose, it was really difficult to narrow Avaleigh's photos down to just four.

I have a confession - I made this layout, minus the photos, back in 2010 when I was guest designing for Everyday Cricut.  It was packed away in a box of "complete but needs photos" layouts I have. For the last six years I would pull it out every January and look at it with my Christmas photos.  And every year it went back in the box, until this year!  Avaleigh really is a feminine little girl so this girly layout worked perfect for her.

I believe I only used a couple of Cricut cartridges to create the layout - Christmas (Noel), and possibly one other to cut the Dec 24 circle and date. Quite honestly I can no longer recall which other cartridge I used.  Sorry.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out Avaleigh's darling Christmas layout.  I will be back on Friday to share Jude's Christmas layout!

Cute Baby Jude Layout

Hello friends. Welcome to this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge - Cute as a Button Baby challenge.  One of the other new grandmothers, Maureen, chose this week's challenge. I discovered a stash of completed layouts stacked together and realized that I had never shared any of them on my blog.  And as luck would have it, among them was this darling layout of one day old baby Jude.

I used three Cricut cartridges on these two pages:  Baby Steps, Disney Mickey Font, and 3 Birds on Parade.

I found this cute little new delivery baby on the 3 Birds on Parade.  I removed the bird and suspended the bird from my Hey Jude title.

The sweet baby sleeping on the moon is from the Baby Steps cartridge. This is a go to cartridges on all things baby related.

The phrase OH BOY was cut using the Mickey Font Cartridge.

The Beatles cut below is an SVG file I made using a cartoon image from the Internet.  I used this same SVG cut in iron-on material and made Jude an adorable gown and cap set.

If you have not already been by Bitten By the Bug 2 blog today, please do visit.  The design team has created ADORABLE baby projects.  You will love them.  Also, we would love to have you join our challenge this week.  If you have baby photos to scrap, or a new baby card to make, this is your chance!

Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I do have additional layouts that I plan to share later in the week.

First Bike Birthday Party Layout

Hello friends. I am back with a surprise part two of Monday's post - Avaleigh's birthday party.  I scrapped a total of four pages on Avaleigh's second birthday party.  The first two pages where shared on Monday as my Bitten By the Bug 2 birthday themed project.  Today I have two additional pages.  The first page features the Schwinn Roadster Tricycle that "GranDoug" and I gave to Avaleigh as a birthday present.  The second page is Avaleigh and her parents celebrating.

Let's begin with the Cricut details. I used two cartridges on these pages: The fun double layer font is from the Carousel cartridge, and the tricycle is from B is for Boy.  I made edits to each of the cuts. 1. I removed the open diamond shape from the top layer of the letters.  2. I cut the bottom layer of the bike twice - once in black and again in silver grey.  I then snipped apart the silver layer and assembled to make the bike more closely resemble Avaleigh's bike.

As you can see in the photo progression above, Avaleigh loved her bike. Her cute cousin was the first to comment on her bike.  When we brought it in, Seeley shouted, "COOL!"

I used the same Close To My Heart Sugar Rush paper kit for these two pages as I used on the first two pages.  I also used the cardstock stickers "YOU ARE Sweet" on the last page.

In addition to using the same Sugar Rush paper kit, I also used the Sugar Rush donut thin die and stamp set to craft the adorable little donuts.  I actually am already planning a new project (treat for Bethany's second graders) using this same paper and die set.

Donut Birthday Party Brunch

Hey there.  Welcome to this week's Bitten By the Bug 2 Birthday Challenge post.  My sweet and talented Design Sister, Marti (who is out on break), chose the theme of this week's challenge - Birthdays.  This worked great for me as I had photos from Avaleigh's second birthday party in January to scrap.

Avaleigh's mommy did a fabulous job planning Avaleigh's birthday party. Avaleigh's favorite thing is Donuts! So how fitting was it that she had a donut themed birthday party brunch?  There were glazed donuts, frosted donuts, jelly filled donuts, and donut holes!  Of course there were other yummy brunch foods, but lots and lots of donuts!

As luck would have it I had the perfect Cricut cuts and the perfect paper to scrap Avaleigh's party photos!  I used two cartridges, Love You a Latte and Cricut Alphabet for the Cricut cuts.  There are other donut cuts on different Cricut cartridges, but I really liked the sprinkled donuts on the Love You a Latte cartridge.  Avaleigh's favorite donut is the frosted with sprinkles donut. So perfect.  I also had the perfect paper for this layout, this adorable paper is from Close To My Heart and is called Sugar Rush. It has donuts printed on one side, and ice cream cones on the other side.

I  used the very basic Cricut Alphabet cartridge for the title cut.  I like the double layer title - the shadow is always a nice touch.  There was so much else going on with the layout that I wanted a non-complicated font.

In addition to the Sugar Rush kit, I also used Close To My Heart thin cut dies and matching stamps for this layout, the Sugar Rush thin cuts bundle.  The thin dies cut the smaller donuts (both layers) and the stamps gave pattern to the tops of the donuts. I used the three colors of sparkle gems from the paper kit to embellish the die cut and stamped donuts.  As an added bonus, ALL DIE CUTS are ON SALE for 25% off this month at Close To My Heart!

If you have not already gone by the Bitten By the Bug 2 blog and viewed this week's challenge, please do so.  The design team has come up with a variety of Birthday projects to inspire you.  Also, we would love to have you join our challenge this week.  Everyone needs birthday cards and birthday layouts!!!

Heritage Recipe Scrapping

Hello friends.  Today I have a Heritage layout to share with you.  Close To My Heart is having contest for consultants and I decided to enter this layout. I love the layout, but I am really unhappy with the photography.  I am not sure what I am doing different when photographing my project lately, but the color and detail are not what I would like them to be.

One of the only rules for the contest was to use only currently available products.  Easy-peasy.  I began by designing my layout in Cricut Design Space.  That is a habit I developed years ago with the original Cricut Design Studio software.  I like building my layout before I begin cutting.  I find I waste less paper that way.  This is what my layout looked like in Design Space:

I used shades of gray and cream as space holders for printed cardstock.  I also changed my title after designing the layout.  Sadly, I also switched a photograph I had planned to use, but forgot to change the writing on the layout page before writing and cutting.  In the photo below I had planned to use a photo of my great-grandparents shortly after their wedding, but instead I used this photo of grandma holding her granddaughter, my grandmother.

I am not going to go into every detail of this layout.  I will say that I cut all of the flowers in white cardstock, then used ink and watercolor brushes to watercolor the flowers.  It was fun and easy.  After the flowers dried and were assembled, I added shimmer pen accents to some of the flowers, but not all.

I also watercolored the white layer of the leaves.  After assembling I used a spray bottle and added speckles of color to the leaves. I really like the details.

In the photo above you will see me as a young mother.  I am looking adoringly at Ian.  He was three months old and I was 31.  That was almost 26 years ago!

The tea pot, above, was edited in Design Studio.  I placed an oval over the center area of the teapot the used the "slice" function to remove the flower and leaf section of the teapot.  I then made my own spray of flowers and used a stamped embellishment to decorate my teapot.  If you lift the teapot, the recipe will be revealed.

One of the details lost in my photos is the shimmer effect on the baby's breath.  I added touches of gold shimmer to the edges of the baby's breath, then went over the entire white bud with clear shimmer.  They look really nice on the page.  Also, in the photo above, you can see the gold glitter gems.

I note about the recipe:  This is my entire family's favorite breakfast recipe, but one we have on very rare occasions due to the amount of sugar in the sauce.  It is essentially homemade biscuits (yum) with a chocolate sauce over them.  The chocolate sauce is heavenly, but very rich.  I refer to it as diabetes on a plate.  But seriously, every member of our family loves this.  And, according to my mother, our ancestors found this as yummy as we do.

I can remember standing in a chair watching my grandmother make this. She always prepared this when we visited.  And then I watched my mom make it.  There was never "a written down recipe" until I finally wrote it down a few years ago. I realized it was going to be lost if it was not documented. Now not only is it documented, it is scrapped!!  Three photos of the actual breakfast appear in the filmstrip frames.

Below you will find a linked list of the Close To My Heart products I used to make this layout.  I did not add the Artistry cartridge to the list as only one cut came from that particular cartridge - the film strip cut.

Lucky Me!

Hello friends.  Welcome to this week's Bitten By The Bug 2 challenge.  With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner my adorable Design Team sister, Laurie, selected the theme of Lucky for this week.  Laurie challenged us to create a project that used the word Lucky or a Cricut cut image that represents Lucky.  I chose these great images from CTMH's Flower Market cartridge.

I used lots of layered cuts on my card - the circle clover cut, topped with individual clover cuts in a different color of green, the sprigs of clover in the bottles, again with mixed green leaves, and finally the clover leaves on the corners of the card.

The "antique" milk bottles and the LUCKY ME cuts were also from the Flower Market cartridge.

I apologize that my photo seems a bit out of focus.  I actually photographed the card a second time, on a different day and time, and it still looked blurry.... and dark.  I decided that the issue might be with the small print on some of the papers I used.

I have to say that the rest of the Design Team did a MUCH better job on this challenge that I did.  Please do go by Bitten By The Bug 2 and view the fabulous projects the team created.  You will not be disappointed.
