Radioactive Careers

Hello friends!  Welcome to this week's Bitten by the Bug 2 Cricut challenge. With Labor Day just around the corner, our amazing Design Team sister, Caroline, selected this week's challenge. Caroline asked us to create projects featuring careers of our choice. I made this fun science themed card. I showed it to my hubby, he said, "That's one smart little bear!"

Did you know that only 6% of girls pursue careesr in math and science (or STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)? Living near the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site, we see an above average number of women with science, technology, engineering, and math degrees and careers. My hope is that this will be inspirational to both girls and young women in our area. These traditionally male career areas have seen outstanding advances and discoveries by women. My hope is that more women will pursue degrees and careers in STEM areas.

Back to today's challenge:  In addition to basic shapes, I used three Cricut cartridges to create this card: Teddy Bear Parade, Nifty Fifties, and Chemistry Icons.  My scholarly bear was made with elements from two bears combined together.  I thought she needed the glasses to prove that she is not just another pretty face!! The Radioactive title with the atomic image are from the Nifty Fifties cartridge. I added additional loose atoms floating around the lab (circle). The coiled flasks were cut from the Chemistry Icon cartridge.  I was very happy to find these cuts in the Cricut library.

I hope that you find time this week to create a career themed project.  And I invite you to link your project to the Bitten By the Bug 2 blog.  We so enjoy it when you join us in crafting.

I hope to post more new projects this week. That was my intention last week, but a late summer sinus infection got the best of me.  Fortunately I am experiencing better living through chemistry as I am on an antibiotic that seems to be defeating the infection! Yay for STEM careers!!

  1. I agree, we need more women in the science and engineering fields. What a great card to pay tribute to this field. Teddy bears are popular this week.

  2. This is definitely a smart little bear. I love your theme and encouragement to women to follow their dreams. You have some wonderful stitching and doodling going on here.
