Celebrating Leap Day Card

Hello friends!  Happy Leap Day!   At Bitten By The Bug 2 this week we are celebrating this once every four years event with a Leaping challenge.  My sweet Design Team sister, L.B., has challenged us to create projects featuring something that is leaping.  The Design Team did an amazing job interpreting this challenge - you have to go by the Bitten By The Bug 2 blog and check out their projects!

I will be the first to admit that my card is a bit unusual.  I was working on last week's margarita card when I envisioned the drinks dancing.  The leaping alcoholic beverages are certainly having fun celebrating Leap Day.

I used three cartridges in Cricut Design Space to create this card:  Mixed Drinks, Shall We Dance, and St. Patrick's Day.  I used the slice feature to remove the heads and bodies from the dancing figures and welded the drinks to their limbs.  I like to think that the drinks are having an amazing time.

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope that you might decide to join in us in this weeks Leap Day Challenge.  Just link your project in at Bitten By the Bug 2.

National Margarita Day Card

Hello friends!  Happy National Margarita Day! My sweet Design Team sister, Kelly - who is out on break, selected this week's Bitten By The Bug 2 Cricut Cut Challenge.  Can you guess what she chose?  Fiesta themed projects!

I have a true life Margarita story to tell you.  When I was expecting my second child, my daughter, all summer I craved a margarita.  But being a very conscientious expectant mother I would not partake of even a sip.  Near the end of the summer my friends got together and created a mock margarita for me, using all fruit juice concentrate.   I was six months along had only gained six pounds at the time of the mock margarita reveal.  I went to the doctor a couple of weeks later and in a single month I gained five pounds.  All of that concentrated juice!  Fortunately the weather became colder (up-state New York) and I put away the blender.

I used three Cricut cartridges and basic shapes to create this card.  I visualized a background of Mexican tiles.  With basic squares and iron works from Ornamental Iron 2 I created my tiles.  I muted the colors so that the tile did not over power the sentiment, Bottoms Up - cut using the Pack Your Bags cartridge.  The basic Margarita is from the Mixed Drinks cartridge.

I cut the bottom Margarita layer twice so that I could add pop dots between the two bottom layers and add dimension to the drink.  I wanted to pop the drink off of the page so that it was not muted into the background.

If you have not already done so, please go by Bitten By The Bug 2 and check out the other Fiesta themed projects the Design Team made.  They are an amazing group of paper crafters.   We hope that you might choose to join us in the Fiesta themed challenge this week.

Thanks for stopping by.  This is the last full week of the Close To My Heart specials.  Click HERE to shop my on-line store.

Stamp Art Show

Hello friends!  I am two and half days late with this post because of a delay in photographing the finished card.  I have been crafting this week, but more with textile crafts than with paper crafts.

Last Friday night (February 12) my friend Toby and I attended the Seaside Stamp Art Show pre-show Make & Take event in Columbia.  In all honesty, this event topped what we were expecting!  There were ten vendors with make and take projects, most with a pre-show special on the products used.  We rotated among ten tables, always staying with the same group, to complete our projects.

Toby and I were so busy having fun that we forgot to take very many photos.  I did grab a few shots of us at the stempel technique station.  I really liked this simple card.  It was made in less than 15 minutes!!

We used two colors of ink and stempel brushes to create the background of the card.  We then used brown ink to stamp the birch trees and black ink to stamp the deer.  All this card needs is a sentiment and it is ready to mail.  And what a great man card!

I only made a few purchases at the show.  I bought a great treat making die and I purchased a die and stamp set from the card below.  I look forward to playing with my toys once I finish my sewing projects.  More on these later....

I am not going to share all ten projects, but I will add one more, a cute card from Darcie!

Kickin' Valentine's Day Treat Bags

Hello friends, today I am going to share samples of the fifty-seven treat bag tags I made for my daughter and son-in-law's students.  I found the adorable Valentine Ninja file on Etsy.   There were six different Ninja poses in the set.  I confess that for some strange reason I preferred those holding weapons.  It made them look a bit more fierce, in a totally adorable way of course!

The Ninjas are a print and cut file.  The Cricut Explore did an outstanding job of cutting out the images.

I used a heart tag file from a Cricut cartridge to cut the tags and heart layers.  I added rectangles to the top of the tags and hearts, lining up the layers, so that the holes for the ribbon would cut out.  The Cricut also printed my sentiment on each tag:  "Have a Kickin' Valentine's Day!  From: Mrs (or Mr.) Ross."

I provided most of the filler for the treat bags:  Valentine Pencils "from your teacher", scratch off book markers, organic fruit chew hearts, heart suckers, and Valentine temporary tattoos.   I think Bethany and John added some additional items when they assembled the bags at their house.  I was THRILLED that they were going to assemble!

The only downside to this craft was I forgot to photograph the tags and bags prior to handing them off.  I asked Bethany to photograph the bags for me and these are the phone photos she sent.  Not quite up to my usual photo standards, but at least I have photos to post!

I apologize for the less than stellar photos, but I wanted to share the cute Valentine treat bags.  I will be back tomorrow - no don't faint - with yet another post!  I am trying to step up my game here!!  Thanks for stopping by.

Spa Day Essential Oil Recipe Cards

Hello friends, today I am going to share the recipe cards I made for my friend Megan's Young Living Essential Oil Make & Take party.  Megan created three work stations for three different products the guests could make using essential oils and other household products.  Each station had the recipe and the necessary ingredients set up for the guests.  The day before her Make & Take Megan asked if I could make recipe cards.  I think I did a little more than she expected.

I used the Spa Day SVG tag file from  my scrapchick .com to create the recipe cards/tags.  The Spa Day file set is so cute and I was happy to finally have an occasion to use the files.  I created 20 sets of the recipe cards and each set was topped with a Spa Day girl.

After cutting the pieces of the Spa Day girls, I inked all of the edges.  I assembled the inked pieces, building up from the back.  Before I added the cucumber slices over the eyes, I used shimmer chalks to add make up to the face.  I finished with the cucumbers and the lips.

I printed the recipes in text boxes then cut them out and glued them to the Cricut cut tags.  I punched holes and I tied all three recipes together with seam binding ribbon.  I cannot wait for a chance to use this file set again!!

I will be back tomorrow with another project to share with you.  Thank you for stopping by today.

Goody Goody Gumball Birthday Card

Hello friends, welcome to this weeks Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge.  My sweet, sweet Design Team sister, Emily, selected the Cricut cut for this week's challenge.  Emily discovered that today is National Gumdrop Day and she challenged the team to use candy on our projects.  As you can see, I changed the wording of the saying from Goody, Goody Gumdrops to Goody, Goody Gumballs and used this fun gumball machine cut on a birthday card!

I used three cartridges to create this card, as well as lots of scraps from my scrap stash!  The gumball machine was cut using the Wrap It Up cartridge, the Happy Birthday banners were cut using the Martha Steward Birthday Cake cartridge, and the swirl frame was cut using Close To My Heart's Artbooking cartridge.

For some unknown reason the color is off a bit in my photos.  The frame outline is actually a much brighter red than the photo depicts.  And the pink is a pretty bright pink color.  If you compare, the upper and lower photos do not look like they are the same colors.  It must have been a bad day for photography.

I do hope you plan to go by the Bitten By the Bug 2 blog, if you have not already done so, and view the amazing candy projects - more that just eye candy this week - that the design team has made.  We also hope that you find time to join us for this week's challenge and create your own candy project!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I have posts planned for each day this week so be sure to stop back by.

Modern Art St. Valentine Layout

Hello friends, welcome to this weeks Bitten By the Bug 2 challenge.  My sweet and very talented Design Team sister, Caroline, selected this weeks challenge - Use a Cricut cut HEART on your project.  I created this two page layout for this week's challenge, using three Cricut cartridges to cut or draw all of the elements.

I began with two 12 x 12 inch sheets of Close To My Heart Watercolor paper.  Using Close To My Heart Watercolor Paints and Watercolor Brushes, along with a cup of water and a sponge, to create the background pages.  I used four colors of paint on very wet paper.  After the majority of the paint had dried I splattered the page with a hot pink color of paint using water and the edge of the largest paint brush.

I allowed the pages to dry, blotting any excessive water away with my sponge.  I used my blow dryer to be sure that all of the fibers in the paper were very, very dry before moving on.

My layout pages were designed in Cricut Design Space, with the white sheets reduced to 11.5 x 11.5 inches.  I attached the black heart art from the Monogram Motif cartridge to the white pages, flipping one to be a mirror image of the other.  I used a fine tip Cricut black pen to draw the heart with the Explore.  After the drawings were complete, the Explore trimmed the pages down to size.

Once the cutting and trimming were complete, I used Close To My Heart Watercolor Pencils to color in various shapes on the pages.  The white pages were then glued to the teal backgrounds.

I used three cartridges to cut the remaining page elements:  Monogram Motif, Valentine's Day, and Art Philosophy.  The roses in a heart shape were cut using Valentine's Day.  I added additional hearts from Valentine's Day behind the rose hearts.  The blue and pink layered floral hearts were cut using the Monogram Motif cartridge.  The circles and scalloped circles were cut using Close To My Heart's Art Philosophy cartridge.

I finished the layout by adding white ink pen doodles around the scalloped edges.  I plan to use Valentine's Day photos from various family members.  Of course that large circle, which will hold a 5 x 5 inch photo, if for Avaleigh's St. Valentine photo!

I know I mentioned several Close To My Heart products in this post.  I am still learning to use our watercolors with paper crafting, but we do have a fabulous set of paints, brushes, watercolor paper, and watercolor pencils.  I am having a great time learning to combine watercolors with scrapbooking and card making.  I have linked all of the products in the text, but I am also adding photos and links below.

While you are at my Close To My Heart on line store checking out the watercolor line, be sure to check out this month's specials:

Alice Birthday Card and Birthday Party

Hello friends, today I am sharing a birthday card I made for my granddaughter, who had the most darling vintage Alice in ONE-derland birthday party.

I used Cricut's Disney Classics cartridge to create Alice, the White Rabbit, and the birthday cake on this card.  I honestly do not remember what I used for the Happy 1st Birthday sentiment, but I do recall that it was more than just a cartridge cut (I included cut text).

Avaleigh's first birthday party was the weekend before her actual birthday.  She had been on the antibiotic for her ear infection for a couple of days so we were hopeful that she would feel better.  As the recipient of  her virus "sharing", I am going to say that a couple of days is not long enough to feel better.  That virus was evil and hung on for over a week!

Bethany and her friend Bailey did such a fantastic job with Avaleigh's party decorations.  I found a few fun decorations for them, the food tags and such, and they came up with all of the rest on their own!  Everything looked so sweet and so special!

For an ill one year old, Avaleigh had quite the large party.  She had family from both sides, four cousins, and some of her parents' friends.  Bethany had an amazing menu:  roasted pork tenderloin with cheese and a sauce sliders, fabulous chicken salad croissants, pbj's for the kids, potato salad, pasta salad, raw veggie cups with hummus and dip, chocolate dipped strawberries, themed rice crispy treats, sodas, punch, and the most fabulous homemade cupcake EVER!  Her sister-in-law kept asking where she purchased things and was stunned to realize that Bethany only purchased ingredients, croissants, and rolls.  Otherwise she was a busy mom and made everything.

I loved what Bethany and Bailey did with one of the birdcages leftover from Bethany's wedding.  They made a small three tiered cake and placed it inside the birdcage with  fresh roses and Alice themed food spears.

Below is Bethany, a sick little Avaleigh, and Bailey.

Avaleigh really enjoyed pulling the tissue paper out of her gifts.  She had tissue flying left and right.

Avaleigh really liked the musical puppy her cousins gave her.  It is such a fun pull toy for her.

In fact, she liked the musical puppy so well that she did a little dance to the music!

Like everything else that she eats, Bethany made Avaleigh an organic birthday "smash" cake.

Our little princess would only poke at the frosting on her cake.  This was day two of her refusal to eat.  She kept drinking throughout her illness, but she had two or three days where she refused food.

The photo below captures Avaleigh's attitude toward her cake perfectly.  She would look at it, she even touched it once, but she refused to engage with it!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you enjoyed my Alice birthday card and Avaleigh's first birthday party recap!
