Advent Calendar with Heartfelt Creations

Hello friends!  I mentioned previously that I had made three projects for the Heartfelt Creations Design Team call.  You have already viewed the Baby Girl card and Wedding layout page, and today I am going to share this Advent Calendar.

A word about the Heartfelt Creations Design Team Call - while I did not make the cut, 22 very talented women have moved on to the second phase of the DT call.  I visited the blogs of those who moved forward and I have to say, I was VERY, VERY impressed with their fabulous work.  WOW.  I need to spend the next year developing my design ability!!!   But truly I am happy that I tried out - I was able to make three projects that I like, which gave me three blog posts (!), and allowed me a cute means of announcing my future granddaughter!!

I had been hording a Kaisercraft Beyond The Page Advent Calendar Kit for a couple of years.  At one point these kits became difficult to find and I knew I would want to make one more Advent Calendar, so I purchased the kit and stashed it in the corner of my scrap room.

Supplies I used to create this calendar include these Heartfelt Creations (HFC) products:
Festive Christmas Paper Collection, O Little Town stamp set, Ornamental Add On Die, Vintage Floret Die, Mini Vintage Floret PreCut stamp set, and Regal Poinsettia 2 stamp set.

Other products used include:
Spellbinders Blossoms 2 Nestabilities, Close to My Heart Red Card Stock, Mod Podge, Art Glitter Glue, Art Glitter Gala Glitz, Art Glitter 237 Lichen, 3D Stamp Paint – Carmine Red Metallic, Barn Red Ink, Red Ink, White Ink, Green Ink, Red Glitter, Gold Glitter, Stylus & Foam Mat, ¾ inch circle punch, and Pop dots.

Sort and divide the calendar kit pieces, smoothing edges with sandpaper if needed.  Cut paper from the Festive Christmas Paper Collection into 2 inch strips.  Apply mod podge to outside pieces from the frame kit.  Apply the paper, then cover again with mod podge.  Gently hammer pieces into the back of the calendar lining up the slots.  Cover the inside long pieces with mod podge and apply 2 inch strips of red card stock, apply another coat of mod podge.  Compete these same steps with the two shorter inside pieces; insert all pieces into the back board, lining up the pegs into the slots and gently hammer into place.  Paint or ink the short wood pieces from the kit which will serve at the draw dividers with red and hammer them into the back.

Assemble all 24 pre-cut and pre-scored drawers using the art glitter glue.  Cut four 12 inch long strips of 1.75 inch wide strips of green Festive Christmas paper, cut each of the 12 inch strips in half.  Repeat this step with a red print and a neutral print.  Using the ¾ inch circle punch, punch out half a circle in the middle of each of the 24 strips of cut paper.  Use Art Glitter glue and apply the strips to the drawers, placing the cut out over the corresponding drawer cut out.

Paint or ink the numbers and using art glitter glue, apply them to the front of the drawers.  After the numbers have dried apply more glue to the numbers only, and dip the numbers into matching glitter.

Cut a 9 inch square of Festive Christmas paper with the ornaments in the upper left corner.  Cut around the edges of the ornaments so that a 7 x 7 inch square of Festive Christmas paper (trimmed so that the candle lantern is in the lower right corner) will slide under the ornaments.  Using the text stamp from O Little Town, repeatedly stamp the text in a distressed fashion on the neutral background.

Using identical papers from your Festive Paper collection cut out the lantern and the two ornaments a second time.  Use pop dots to place the lantern and ornaments over their corresponding images. Cut a tag and two other embellishment tags from the Festive Paper collection and pop dot those under the edge of the popped ornaments.

Using the Vagabond, cut the flower elements using the five point flower found in the HCD 727 Vintage Floret Die.  Cut additional flowers using Spellbinders Blossoms 2 Nestabilities.  Stamp the petal images using barn red ink and corresponding stamps.  Using the stylus and mat, shape all of the flowers and assemble with the glitter art.  Apply 3D stamp paint to the petal and a dusting of red glitter.  Apply art glitter glue to the flower centers and add gold glitter.

Cut the leaves using HCD 738 Ornamental Add-On die.  Shape the leaves with the stylus and foam mat.  Apply art glitter glue to the circles on the leaf swirls and apply Art Glitter Gala Glitz glitter to the berries.

Use Art Glitter glue to apply the flowers and leaves to the advent calendar images and top right exterior.  Layer the flowers out from the back wall of the Advent Calendar to create more dimension.

Now that I have finished this Advent Calendar, I am getting in the mood to begin making Christmas cards.  I have a real dilemma this year - handmade cards vs. photo cards with wedding photos.  Oh decisions, decisions....

Thanks for stopping by today!!

  1. I can't believe as talented as you are Susan that you didn't make the cut! Don't sell yourself short because you are very talented in everything you do. Just look at the wedding stuff you did and your layouts, I could go on and on. I don't think you didn't make the cut because you weren't good enough, I think it was just too many of you that were so good. Now I love your advent calender. I want to make another one or two too. I want to give them to my DIL's for my grandchildren. Hugs, Brenda
